Emily Paul Southerland and David Ryan Byrd of Goldsboro exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Paul Vernon Southerland and Laurie Crawford Harding of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Vernon Cedric and Sadie McCarter Southerland, Annie Laurie Crawford Wharton and the late John Robert Crawford Jr. of Goldsboro.

She graduated from Wayne Country Day School in 2003 and Meredith College in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She is employed at Wayne Community College.

The groom is the son of Donnie Ray and Becky Jean Byrd of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Percy Ward and Myrtha Beasley Byrd of Dunn and Jo Ann Wellons and the late William Freeman Wellons of Goldsboro.

He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 2000 and North Carolina State University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He is employed as senior purchasing manager at Park Designs.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore an A-line silhouette ivory satin gown with a strapless sweetheart pleated neckline, hand-beaded Swarovski crystals and stone detail on the bust, a side ruched bodice with a bustled skirt and a semi-cathedral-length train.

Her headpiece was a cathedral-length veil etched in ivory satin ribbon.

The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of lilies, roses, hydrangeas, tulips, peonies and mini calla lilies with the stems wrapped in lace from her mother’s wedding veil.

Claire Davis Franklin of Goldsboro was matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Jennifer Byrd Pfaadt of Atlanta, Margaret Grier Harding, Jaclyn Tyler Smith and Jamie Lin Tyler of Goldsboro, Miller Leonard Holmes of Greenville and Danielle Whitney Rupert of Raleigh.

Donnie Ray Byrd was his son’s best man.

Groomsmen were Mark Daughtry Metzler, Nicholas Lee Robbins and Christopher Warren Tyler of Goldsboro, Adam Howard Grady of Raleigh, William Douglas Nicely of Newport and Donald Joseph Pfaadt of Atlanta.

Elsie Raper Hooks directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Anna Davis Tart. Mary Clyde Peacock distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Craig Hanemann, violinist; Marta Partridge, violist; Carole Nanzetta, cellist; and Carol Gray, organist.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Goldsboro Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Thomas Byrd greeted guests.

After their wedding trip to the British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Goldsboro.

Events held before the wedding included a surprise Christmas shower Dec. 16 at the home of Kim Kastner hosted by Mrs. Kastner and friends of the bride’s mother; a stock-the-bar shower July 16 at the Elks Club hosted by the bride’s father and family; an engagement dance Aug. 6 at Goldsboro Country Club hosted by friends and family of the couple; a bridal shower Sept. 18 at the home of Claire Franklin hosted by Mrs. Franklin, Anna Tart and Kathy Davis; a dinner Oct. 8 at the home of Lola and Matt Delbridge hosted by the Delbridges; a wedding shower Oct. 14 at Wayne Community College hosted by co-workers of the bride; a wedding shower Oct. 16 at First Baptist Church hosted by the ladies of the church; a garden and grill shower Nov. 3 at Park Designs hosted by co-workers of the groom; and a bridesmaids’ luncheon Nov. 11. at Chef and The Farmer hosted by Nancy Norwood and Annie Laurie Wharton.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Walnut Creek Country Club.
