Christina Nicole Pittman and Derek Chandler Pernell exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park in Seven Springs, with chaplain Vickie Sterling officiating.

The bride is the daughter of James Edward and Brenda Radford Pittman of Fremont and the granddaughter of Christine Holland Pittman and the late James Thomas Pittman of Fremont and the late William Aaron and Marjorie Pierce Radford of Pikeville.

She graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and from The Medical Arts School with a degree in massage therapy. She is employed as a licensed massage and bodywork therapist at J.L. Eden Salon and Day Spa.

The groom is the son of G. Carlton Pernell and Cynthia Templeton Whitley of Smithfield and the grandson of the late George W. and Evelyn Mitchell Pernell of Smithfield and Alice Sykes Jackson and the late Ben Templeton of Raleigh.

He graduated from Johnston Community College with a degree in business administration. He is employed as an HVAC contractor at Pernell Inc.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her parents.

Stephanie Pittman Howell was her sister’s matron of honor.

G. Carlton Pernell was his son’s best man.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Nahunta Friends Meeting fellowship hall.

After their wedding trip to Six Flags over Georgia, New Orleans and Destin, Fla., the couple will reside in Smithfield.

Events held before and after the wedding included a bridal brunch shower Aug. 28 in Smithfield hosted by family and friends of the groom; a lingerie shower Sept. 9 at Outback Steakhouse hosted by co-workers of the bride; a floating bridal shower Sept. 12 at Nahunta Friends Meeting fellowship hall hosted by family and friends of the bride; a wedding breakfast Sept. 18 hosted by family and friends of the groom; a fall cookout Oct. 30 in Kenly hosted by family and friends of the groom; and an Italian dinner Nov. 6 in Smithfield hosted by family and friends of the groom.
