McAuley - Oldham
VASS — Sarah Clarisa Oldham and Specialist Stephen Andrew McAuley of Savannah, Ga,. exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony July 11 at 4 p.m. at Vass United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Philip Brown and the Rev. Sammy Frye officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Commander Richard Thomas and Ann Scott Oldham of Vass and the granddaughter of the late Edgar and Clarice Oldham of Vass and the late Emmitte and Patsy Scott of Pikeville.
She is a 2008 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She is working on the oncology floor at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst while pursuing a graduate degree in the medical field.
The groom is the son of Sergeant Maj. Richard Alan and Linda Craner McAuley of Vass and the grandson of Roxanne McAuley, the late Richard Mason McAuley and the late Mr. and Mrs. Archie Craner of Butler, Ohio.
He is serving in the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a slim A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline and empire ribbon accent. It had vidal lace over satin and was sprinkled with Swarovski crystals, seed beads, bugle beads, glass beads, and sequins.
She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white kito roses and white fuji mums wrapped with white satin ribbon and pearls.
Emily Oldham of Vass was her sister’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Ashley Marley of Robbins, Marie Fogartie of Morgantown, W.Va., Shelley Schad of Southport, Conn., Stephanie Atkins of Carthage and Elizabeth Futrell of Vass.
Richard A. McAuley was best man.
Groomsmen were Specialist Daniel McAuley of Savannah, brother of the groom; Specialist Brett Tripp, Specialist Dawayne Mckibban and Specialist Michael Palermo of Savannah; and Guy Davis and Ian Cameron of Vass.
Ushers were Lt. Col. Wolfgang Biggerstaff of Falls Church, Va., brother of the bride; Ryan Biggerstaff and Chase Biggerstaff of Middlesex, nephews of the bride; and Mason Comer of Stewart, Fla., nephew of the groom.
Maggie Lynn Biggerstaff of Middlesex, niece of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid.
Trammell Miller of Cape Carteret, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Bryson Horney of Carthage, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer.
Elaine Smith directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Rachel Comer, sister of the groom.
A program of wedding music was provided by Cathy McCanless, pianist; Paul Glazener, vocalist; and Sierra Bunnell, trumpeter.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Yates Thagard Baptist Church in Carthage.
After their western Caribbean wedding cruise to Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel, the couple will reside in Savannah.
Events held before the wedding included a bridesmaids’ luncheon at Woodlake County Club in Vass hosted by aunts of the bride; a wedding shower hosted by ladies of Yates Thagard Baptist Church; a lingerie shower hosted by the bride’s sister; a wedding shower hosted by the oncology floor at Moore Regional Hospital; a bridal shower hosted by Elizabeth Futrell; and a kitchen and recipe shower hosted by Elaine Smith and Carole Nicely.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at JFR Barn in Southern Pines.
