Jessica Michele Pate and Benjamin Travis Smith of Pikeville exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony March 7 at 6 p.m. at Goldsboro Worship Center, with Danny Johnson and Jerry Andrews officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Maj. James Michael and Charlotte Gardner Pate of Pikeville and the granddaughter of Walter Frank and Sara Mantooth Pate and the late James W. and Shirley Cook Gardner of Goldsboro.

She is a 2001 honor graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2005 graduate of Wayne Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in education. She is employed as a teacher assistant at Northwest Elementary School.

The groom is the son of William Mark Smith of Goldsboro and Paulette Turnage Kanoy of Morganton, the stepson of Pam Peele Smith and Billy Kanoy, the grandson of William Green and Bettie Peacock Smith of Goldsboro, Pauline Turnage Peacock and the late C. B. Turnage of Goldsboro and the stepgrandson of Joseph Peacock.

He is a 2003 honor graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He is employed as a student pastor at Goldsboro Worship Center.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a white satin strapless pick-up ball gown with a corset bodice accented at the waist with a bow and brooch. She wore her mother’s pearls.

Her headpiece was a tiara of rhinestones and pearls attached to a two-tiered veil accented with Swarovski crystals.

The bride carried a round bouquet of stargazer lilies, orlando hot pink roses, white freesia and tree fern.

Ashley Pate Zills was her sister’s matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Crystal Hepburn, sister of the groom, and Chrissie Arenales and Susan Strickland, friends of the couple.

William Mark Smith was his son’s best man.

Ryan Smith, cousin of the groom, was honorary best man.

Groomsmen and ushers were Chris Hepburn, brother-in-law of the groom; Jimmy Zills, brother-in-law of the bride; and Matt Farmer, friend of the couple.

Michelle Johnson directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Rita Smith. Caleb Hepburn, nephew of the groom, and Ethan Zills, nephew of the bride, distributed programs.

Special helpers were Vicky Taylor, friend of the bride’s family, and Gene Smith, cousin of the groom.

A program of pre-recorded classical quartet string wedding music was provided by the groom.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Guests were greeted by Evan and Beverly Keel, uncle and aunt of the bride. Brenda Mozingo, Marilyn Hollingsworth and Kathy Gardner, aunts of the bride, and Marla Glaesman, cousin of the groom, served the wedding cake. Carolyn Wadford, Rita Smith, Sherri Smith and Emmy Lou Peacock, aunts of the groom; Stephanie Smith, cousin of the groom; and Judy Goodman and Debbie Pope, cousins of the bride; poured punch.

After a wedding trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., the couple resides in Pikeville.

Events held before the wedding included a miscellaneous shower Jan. 25 at Goldsboro Worship Center hosted by aunts of the groom; a miscellaneous shower Feb. 8 at Goldsboro Worship Center hosted by aunts of the bride; a miscellaneous shower Feb. 11 hosted by staff of Northwest Elementary School; a Pampered Chef shower Feb. 20 at the home of Ashley Zills, sister of the bride; and a bachelorette party Feb. 28 at Kobe Steakhouse in Smithfield.

The groom’s dad, stepmother and mother held a rehearsal dinner March 6 at Pupetta Bar and Grill.
