MOUNT OLIVE — Melissa Diann Carter and Matthew Ray Liechti exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. at Calypso Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris Currie and the Rev. Clayton Sutton officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Sybil Grady Merkison and the late Jim Merkison of Mount Olive and Jay Carter of Bowden and the granddaughter of Dan and Peggy Grady of Calypso and the late Joseph and Ruby Carter of Faison.

She is a 2005 graduate of North Duplin High School. She is employed with Southern Pharmacy of Pink Hill.

The groom is the son of Dennis and Nancy Liechti of Elwood, Kan., and the grandson of Norman Liechti of Wathena, Kan., the late Mona Liechti and the late Frank and Cecilia Goodwin of St. Joseph, Mo.

He is a 2003 graduate of Elwood High School in Kansas. He is serving in the Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune.

The bride was escorted by her grandfather and given in marriage by her mother.

She wore a white strapless gown with red trim. The bodice was white mystique satin princess-style accented with red embroidery lace on the front.

Her headpiece was a silver clip in her hair.

The bride carried a boouquet of silk red roses and white lilies.

Michelle Tillman of Pikeville was her cousin’s matron of honor, while Jessica Myers of Mount Olive, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Michelle Stroud of Petersburg, Va., and Olivia Miller of Albertson, friends of the bride.

Jared Mount of Camp Lejeune was his friend’s best man.

Ushers were Michael Frischhetz and James Vega of Camp Lejeune, friends of the groom.

Groomsmen were Kyle Nelson, Gregory Mathess and Michael Benson of Camp Lejeune, friends of the groom.

Olivia Sutton, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Rachel Kennedy, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Jennifer Sutton of Calypso, cousin of the bride. Deanna Wheeler of Princeton, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.

Special helpers were Sharon Dixon, Brenda Holliday and Linda Mozingo, friends of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Gloria Morgan, friend of the bride, and Ronda Jackson of Roseboro, cousin of the bride, vocalists.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s mother and family held a reception at Southern Wayne Country Club. Cindy Bell, friend of the bride, was director. Clayton and Glenda, uncle and aunt of the bride, greeted guests.

After a wedding trip to Elwood, the couple will reside in Jacksonville.

The groom’s parents will hold a reception Saturday in Elwood. The groom’s family will hold a shower Friday in Elwood.

Events held before the wedding included a shower Dec. 30 at Brass Lantern in Dunn; a Christmas shower Dec. 17 at the home of Esther Boone hosted by Mrs. Boone, Pat Skinner and Carol Holland; a bridal luncheon Dec. 16 at Southern Belle Restaurant hosted by Gloria Morgan, Brenda Holliday and Sharon Dixon; a supper Dec. 10 at the Country Squire hosted by J.C., Dean, Brad and Cheryl Warren; a supper Dec. 4 at the Country Squire and a bridal shower Dec. 3 at Calypso Presbyterian Church hosted by friends and family.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Friday in the church fellowship hall.
