Mr. and Mrs. Coker

Shirley Brantley Barnard and Christopher William Coker were wed July 17 at 2 p.m.

Larry Miller officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Goldsboro Worship Center.

Leroy and Mollie Ann Brantley of Bunn are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of the late Robert and Mary Morgan and the late Graham and Ina Brantley of Bunn.

Parents of the groom are Jerry Harold and Trudy Gray Coker of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of the late Noah William Gray, the late Leon and Doris Coker and MackSeane Gray Southerland of Goldsboro.

Given in marriage by Albert Barnard and escorted by Albert Barnard and Ann Brantley, the bride wore an ivory satin A-line halter dress with a sweep train with covered buttons down the back. The train was in a French bustle for the reception.

For her headpiece, she chose baby’s breath in her hair. She carried 12 long-stemmed calla lilies with eucalyptus leaves.

Sharon Weaver was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Angel Griffin and Joye Brantley, sisters of the bride, and Hope Brantley and Mellisa Brantley, nieces of the bride.

The groom was escorted by his parents.

Jerry Coker was best man. Ushers were Wells Dilda and Ryan Griffin, friends of the groom; Ryan Coker, cousin of the groom; and Roy Brantley, brother of the bride. Groomsmen were David Hill and Denny Ashby, friends of the groom, and Doug Coker and Jamie Capps, cousins of the groom.

Emily Gray Bedford, niece of the groom, was flower girl. Hamilton Brantley, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Cathy Rhodes, aunt of the groom, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Priscilla and Lindsey Frederick. Hunter Brantley and Trish Capps distributed programs.

Joseph Leonard gave the invocation.

Special helpers were Wendy Rhodes, aunt of the groom, and Tracy Bedford, sister of the groom.

A dance team of Megan Hayne, Haley Kornegay, Katlyn Rogers, Tiffany Rogers and Yvonne Smith performed a spiritual dance.

A program of wedding music was provided by Danny Dupree, pianist and vocalist; Tony Bell, guitarist; and Jay Nesbit, bassist.

After a wedding trip to the Outer Banks, the couple is residing in Goldsboro.

The bride attended Bunn High School. She is a 1994 graduate of North Carolina State University. She is a praise team member with Potter’s Wheel Ministries. She is employed as an accountant with David M. Williams.

The groom attended Eastern Wayne High School. He attends Wayne Community College for turfgrass management and Lenoir Community College for landscape design. He is a musician with Potter’s Wheel Ministries. He is owner of Sonscapes Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Charles and Katie Mitchell, Jean Capps and Lydia Capps served the food. Connie Coker and Donna Perry served the four-tiered wedding cake adorned with red silk roses and baby’s breath. Amy Peele, Lori Hill and Darcie Rhodes poured punch. Stan Southerland gave a toast.

Jerry Coker held a handyman tool party.

Sharon Weaver, Becky Smith, Lori Hill and the women’s alumni at Potter’s Wheel Ministries held a lingerie shower.

The groom’s family held a bridal shower at Goldsboro Worship Center.

The bride’s family held a bridal shower at Poplar Spring Baptist Church of Bunn.

A poolside rehearsal dinner was held at the home of MackSeane Gray Southerland, grandmother of the groom.
