Shanna Lee Hood of Pikeville and Stephen Thomas Gurley exchanged wedding vows July 31 at 5 p.m.

The Rev. Michael Williams officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Alvin Hood and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Allen Sasser of Goldsboro are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manfred Jennings Hood Sr. of Goldsboro and Dora W. Beavers of Seven Springs.

Parents of the groom are Ralph Gurley and Dorothy Gurley of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John David Gurley of Goldsboro, Thelma Cline of College Park, Md., and the late Marion Cline.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father and stepfather, the bride wore a formal gown with a scoop neck bodice with beaded embroidery. It had an organza skirt with a scalloped apron back and 3D floral accents.

For her headpiece, she chose a tiara and an organza veil with beaded metallics. She carried a bouquet of hand-tied calla lilies.

Melissa Hood Hoskins of Pikeville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Melissa Bryan of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Melissa Sasser of Goldsboro, sister of the groom, was the bridesmaid.

Ralph Gurley was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Dirk Leemkuil of Newport, William Spence of Goldsboro, David Gardner of Emerald Isle and John Stephens of New Bern, friends of the groom; Robert Hoskins of Pikeville, brother-in-law of the bride; and Timothy J. Sasser of Goldsboro, nephew of the groom.

Junior bridesmaids were Jenny Cox, Heather Finch and Taylor Cox of Pikeville, nieces of the bride, and Kayla Sasser of Goldsboro, niece of the groom.

Jordan Williams of Newport News, Va., was flower girl. Gabriel Renn, son of the bride, was ring bearer.

Wanda Becton of Goldsboro directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Candice Phillips of Goldsboro. Emma and Katie Hardy of New Bern distributed programs.

Special helpers were Donna Forehand and Cecilia Menley.

A program of wedding music was provided by Tommy Howell, pianist and vocalist.

After a wedding trip to Las Vegas, Nev., the couple is residing in Pikeville.

The bride is a graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. She attends Wayne Community College. She is employed as an intake clerk with Home Health and Hospice.

The groom graduated from Faith Christian Academy and Wayne Community College with a degree in aviation. He is employed as an aircraft planner and estimator with Cherry Point Naval Base.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Holiday Inn Express’ magnolia room. Helpers were Gail Hood, aunt of the bride, and Tootsie Grimes, friend of the bride. Lou Sasser, aunt of the groom, served the wedding cake.

On July 18, friends and family of the couple held a shower in Free Chapel Church fellowship hall.

Co-workers of the bride held a bridal shower July 7 at Logan’s Steakhouse.

The groom’s family held a rehearsal dinner in Free Chapel Church fellowship hall. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
