BETHESDA, Md. — Emily Julia Caplan and Jamaal Akim Stephenson were united in holy marriage Saturday, May 8.

Betty Session officiated at the ceremony at Strathmore Hall.

Parents of the bride are Paula J. Caplan of Cambridge, Mass., and Dr. Marcel Kinsbourne of Winchester, Mass., and the stepdaughter of Caroline B. Kinsbourne.

The groom is the son of Brenda G. Chavis of Goldsboro and Tyrone L. Stephenson of Bethesda and the stepson of Virginia Stephenson.

Accompanied by her parents, the bride wore a diamond white silk organza gown with satin trim. The halter bodice and dropped waistline were accented with beaded Alencon lace. The skirt flowed into a chapel-length train.

For her headpiece, she chose a cathedral-length veil and a crystal and pearl tiara. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white tulips with rose accents and ribbon wrapped in silver embellished with pearls.

Shonna Petrook of Toronto was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Teia Pritchett, Tahira Stephenson and Alicia White, sisters of the groom, and Maryam Ahranjani, Sheila Bedi, Krista Rochon and Ava Tien.

Eddie Chavis was his brother’s best man. Groomsmen were Herb White, brother of the groom; Jeremy Caplan, brother of the bride; Travis Allen, Gerald Cox, Khari Joseph, Christopher Morgan and Greg Parker. Ushers were Radee and Jason Skipworth, cousins of the groom.

Isabelle Kinsbourne, sister of the bride, and Tyra Pritchett, niece of the groom, were flower girls.

Kerri Clark was day-of-the-ceremony coordinator.

A program of wedding music was provided by Cheryl Roeske, harpist, and Ava Tien, vocalist.

The couple is residing in Alexandria, Va.

The bride is a 1997 graduate of Northern Secondary School, Brown University with a bachelor of arts degree and Washington College of Law, American University cum laude. She attended Branksome Hall. She was a Marshall-Brennan Fellow. She is employed as an attorney in the appellate review division of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The groom graduated from Goldsboro High School, Brown University with a bachelor of arts degree and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a master of arts degree in sports management. He was named to the all-decade football team of Brown University. He is emplyed as a regional scout for the Minnesota Vikings Organization of the National Football League.

Following the ceremony, a dinner-dance reception was held at Uptown Catering at Strathmore. A vanilla wedding cake with buttercream frosting adorned with fresh roses was served.

On May 7, Tyrone and Virginia Stephenson held a rehearsal dinner at McCormick and Schmick’s of Bethesda.

Caroline Kinsbourne held a bridal shower March 28 at Positano Ristorante of Bethesda.

Ms. Bedi, Maryam Ahranjani and Ms. Petrook held a bachelorette party at the Bedi home.

Sheila Bedi and Maryam Ahranjani held an engagement party at the home of Gurminder and Tricia Bedi of Washington D.C.
