Mrs. Smith

Gillian Blair Wilson of Raleigh and Glen Eugene Smith of Raleigh said their vows May 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The Rev. Jay Minnick officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Saint Paul United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Harvey Wilson Jr. of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Boyce Bates of Sardis, Miss., Mrs. James Harvey Wilson Sr. of Carnesville, Ga., and the late Mr. Wilson.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Clyde Smith of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of Mrs. John Russell Parrish of Goldsboro, the late Mr. Parrish, the late Roberta Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith of Wilmington.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of ivory silk satin. The dropped waist bodice was embroidered in a floral design overbeaded in Austrian crystal. Inverted pleats at the back waistline extended into a chapel train.

For her headpiece, she chose a full-length veil of silk illusion embellished with floral embroidery and crystal beading attached to a comb of Austrian crystals. She carried a cascading bouquet of white lilies and dendrobium orchids. She also carried an antique blue linen handkerchief given to her as a christening cap.

Kyla Wilson Martin of Houston, Texas, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Meredith Marie Smith of Raleigh, Heather Smith Jones of Kansas City, Mo., and Marjorie Melissa Wooten of Goldsboro.

Walter Ray Anderson III of Goldsboro was best man. Groomsmen were Joseph Andrew Ponzi of Durham and Andrew Ryan Smith and Dustin William Smith of Goldsboro. Ushers were Michael Taylor Jones of Kansas City, Mark Jeffery Lampton Jr. of Greenville, Daniel William Martin of Houston and Roark Garth Stewart Jr. of Raleigh.

Lucas and Ethan Martin of Houston were ring bearers.

Dr. Ralph Smith, father of the groom, was Scripture reader.

Judy Gourley directed the ceremony.

A program of wedding music was provided by Mark Gourley, organist and harpsichordist; the Capital String Ensemble of Raleigh; and April Hill of Burlington and Christopher Lawing of Charlotte, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to France and Italy, the couple is residing in Raleigh.

The bride is a graduate of Wayne County Day School and a summa cum laude graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor of science degree in business management. She is employed as office manager of a Raleigh law firm.

The groom graduated from Eastern Wayne High School and magna cum laude from North Carolina State University as a Park Scholar with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He attends North Carolina State University for a master’s degree in civil engineering.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Walnut Creek Country Club. Adrienne Parker was coordinator.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner May 21 at Billie’s Restaurant.

On May 19, Mrs. John Compton, Mrs. Bruce Malpass and Mrs. Charles Pittman held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the Malpass home.

The groom’s aunts held a miscellaneous shower May 16 at Victory Free Will Baptist Church.

On May 15, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson held a cookout.

The bride’s sister held a bachelorette dinner May 8 at Nina’s Restaurant of Raleigh.

On March 20, Denise Garcia, Adrienne Parker and Melissa Wooten held a swirls-and-pearls shower at the Wooten home.

Mrs. Mike Jones, Meredith Smith and Mrs. Dan Martin held a room-by-room shower in December.
