DUDLEY — Lori Lynne Coates of Mount Olive and Charles Albert Thomas II of Dudley were united in holy matrimony June 5 at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Allen Stanley officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Mays Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Everette and Joyce Coates of Mount Olive. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Smith and the late Edgar Coates.

The groom is the son of Charles A. Thomas of Goldsboro and Linda Hill Carter of Mount Olive. He is the grandson of Hilda Laws Hill of Mount Olive, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas and the late A.T. Hill.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of white Italian satin with a strapless neckline. Inverted satin pleats edged the corset top of the fitted bodice embellished with Venise lace, pearls and sequins that ended in a Basque waistline. The back bodice had a lace-up back. The princess line skirt cascaded into a semi-cathedral train.

For her headpiece, she chose a comb adorned with satin flowers, pearls and Austrian crystals attached to a two-tiered veil of silk illusion trimmed with satin cording.

Karen Coates Morgan of Mount Olive, sister of the bride, was matron of honor.

Charles A. Thomas was his son’s best man. Ushers were Dillon Coates and Lee Coates of Dudley and Taylor Coats, Joshua Morgan and Trevor Morgan of Mount Olive, nephews of the bride.

Brittany Coates and Savanah Morgan of Mount Olive and Madelyn Coates of Dudley, nieces of the bride, were flower girls.

Barbara Lancaster directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Christa B. Coates. Tonya Matthews distributed programs.

Terry Coates, brother of the bride, was Scripture reader.

A program of wedding music was provided by Edythe Blanton, pianist, and Kelvin Coates, Angela Giles and Karen Coates Morgan, vocalists.

After a wedding trip to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Jamaica, the couple will reside in Dudley.

The bride is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and Mount Olive College. She is employed as a physical education teacher with Edgewood Community Developmental School.

The groom graduated from Southern Wayne High School. He is employed as a first class line and service technician with Progress Energy.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Wayne Shrine Club. Julie Coates and Penny Coates, sisters-in-law of the bride, served the wedding cake. Diane Hill, Louise Hill and Vivian Hill, aunts of the groom, poured punch. Samantha Woodson and Haley Matthews, cousins of the groom, distributed bubbles. J.B. and Sue Smith, uncle and aunt of the bride, greeted guests.

On June 4, Edythe Blanton and Christa Coates held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at the Blanton home.

Edgewood staff held a luncheon May 28 at Logan’s Steakhouse.

On May 22, Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Blanton, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Bayles held an engagement party at the Blanton home.

Family and friends of the bride held a miscellaneous shower May 1 at the home of Karen Morgan.

On April 17, former co-workers of the bride held a pantry shower at the home of Glenda Cruse.

Former clients of the bride held a surprise shower April 14 at Goldsboro Eastpointe ADVP.

On April 3, Mays Chapel Free Will Baptist Church held a shower at Southern Belle Restaurant.

Family and friends of the groom held a miscellaneous shower March 27 at Smith Chapel Church.

On March 5, friends of the bride held a surprise lingerie shower at the home of Kristy Mason.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at Mays Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
