Sharon Marie Hinnant of Mount Olive and Michael Christopher Cox pledged their promises Saturday, June 5 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Jerry Jackson officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Providence United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Leroy Hinnant of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Logan Hinnant of Pikeville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Atlas Best of Seven Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lee Cox of Goldsboro are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cox of Dudley and the late Mr. and Mrs. Hal Smith of Pikeville.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal sheath gown of white matte satin. The spaghetti strap corset bodice was accented with white embroidered rose petals and seed pearls. The Basque waist extended into a sweep train.

For her headpiece, she chose a platinum tiara of rhinestones and a cathedral-length veil of illusion enhanced with pearls and a satin trim. She carried a colonial bouquet of stephanotis accented with seed pearls hand-tied with white satin ribbon. She also carried a sixpence given to her by a former second-grade student.

Michelle Hinnant Smith of Burlington, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Tracy Potts Owens of Wilson and Amy Beth Triplett of Mount Olive, friends of the bride, and Beverly Hinnant Weeks of Pikeville, sister of the bride.

Kenneth Lee Cox was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Jason Dean Cox of Goldsboro, brother of the groom, and Walter Lee Kennedy of Goldsboro, Kevin Darrell King of Durham and Gordon Gregory Smith of Morrisville, friends of the groom. Ushers were Steven Allen Jones of Goldsboro and Vernon Elliott Turner II of Winterville, friends of the groom.

Honorary bridesmaids were Abigail Meade Snuffer of Burlington, friend of the bride, and Jaime Britt Cox of Goldsboro, sister-in-law of the groom.

Patricia Diane Faulk of Dudley, friend of the couple, was the miniature bride.

Allison Rishelle Jones of Goldsboro, friend of the couple, was flower girl. Tyler Stephen Weeks of Pikeville, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Shelley Gainey Bartosik of Cary, friend of the couple, directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Jamie Lynn Ivey of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride.

Samantha Gwendolyn Jones and Jacob Rackley Jones of Goldsboro, friends of the couple, distributed programs. Russell Edward Kahn of Cary, friend of the groom, was Scripture reader.

A program of wedding music was provided by Johnny Hinson Jr., pianist; Anna-Lee Crumpton, harpist; Jason Dean Cox, guitarist and vocalist; Michelle Hinnant Smith, vocalist; and Steven Allen Jones, sound technician.

After a wedding trip to Las Vegas, Nev., the couple will reside in Goldsboro.

The bride is a 1993 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, a 1997 graduate of Mount Olive College with a bachelor of science degree in psychology and East Carolina University with a K-12 teaching certification in special education. She attends Campbell University’s school counseling M.Ed. program. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She is employed with Wayne Country Day School as a second grade teacher.

The groom graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1991 and North Carolina State University in 1996 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He is employed with T.A. Loving Co. as a project engineer.

Following the ceremony, the couple’s parents held a reception and dance at Southern Wayne Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Montague were coordinators. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Joyner of Goldsboro and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith of Kannapolis, friends of the couple, greeted guests. Marsha Compton and Bonnie Hughes, co-workers of the bride, served the wedding cake.

On June 4, the groom’s parents held a dinner at Southern Wayne County Club. The groom chose this time to present gifts to his attendants.

The New Covenant and Son Seekers Sunday school class held a miscellaneous shower May 23 at Providence United Methodist Church.

On May 16, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rackley held a dinner party at the Steak Barn.

Michelle Hinnant Smith and Beverly Hinnant Weeks held a bridal brunch May 15 at Diane’s Cafe. The bride chose this time to present gifts to her attendants.

Jason Cox and Kenneth Cox held a tool/garden shower and cookout May 15 at the Cox home.

On May 13, second grade parents and students at Wayne Country Day School held a surprise shower.

Marsha Compton, Bonnie Hughes and the lower school teachers of Wayne Country Day School held a miscellaneous shower May 11 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hughes.

On May 8, Melissa Gainey and Betty Gainey held a bridal luncheon at Nino’s Italian Grille.

Lorelle Martin held a dinner party May 8 at her home.

On April 24, Beverly Hinnant Weeks and Michelle Hinnant Smith held a miscellaneous wedding shower at the Weeks home.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Turner and Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Turner held a dinner party April 17 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Turner.

On April 17, Providence United Methodist Church vision seekers women’s circle members held a luncheon and surprise bridal shower at the Royal Tea Rooms.

Jaime Cox held a brunch and recipe shower April 10 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cox.

On March 20, Brenda Taylor, Ashely Taylor Aguilar and Whitney Taylor held a bridal luncheon at Nino’s Italian Grille.

Mr. and Mrs. David Overman and Mr. and Mrs. Harrell Overman held a dinner party March 13 at the Steak Barn.

On Jan. 17, Patricia Herring held a Christmas shower at Oliver’s Railroad Grille.

The bride’s parents held an engagement dinner June 7, 2003 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weeks.
