PREP BOYS' SOCCER: Confident Golden Falcons upend Hunt

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock may not have been firing on all cylinders Tuesday evening, but it was enough to get the job done.

Dillon Borel scored two goals and the Golden Falcons cruised to a 4-2 victory over Hunt.

"This game was a confidence builder for us," Aycock head coach Cory Worrell said. "We had four guys, three starters injured so we toughed it out tonight."

Aycock controlled possession from the opening kickoff and created scoring opportunities with consistent passing through open spaces. The Warriors were always a step behind and failed to put any pressure on the Golden Falcons.

In the 3rd minute Coe Jordan, running down the right sideline, passed the ball to Borel who knocked it into the net for the quick 1-0 lead.

Then in the 11th minute after receiving a long pass from Jordan, Christian Sexton made a move past the goalie and kicked the ball into the open net.

Hunt got on the board a minute later when Daniel Mondrason broke through the Golden Falcons' back line and smacked the ball past CBA goalie Skyler Landers.

Aycock quickly regained its composure and in the 14th minute Jordan threw the ball into Borel, who ran down the right side ad slipped a shot past the goalie for his second goal of the game.

"I liked the connectivity between Coe Jordan and Dillon Borel tonight," Worrell said. "Dylan set a goal today saying he was going to score a couple goals. He had a great game."

The Warriors kept trying to generate more goals, but they were stifled by the Golden Falcons' defense.

In the 19th minute, C.B. Aycock went up 4-1 when Oscar Carcamo hit a corner kick and Josh Naughton headed the ball into the net.

The Golden Falcons maintained their three-goal advantage at halftime.

In the 72nd minute, Israel Garcia ran through the Golden Falcons' defense for a goal.

"We started the game with a different formation, so it took us a little while to adjust," Hunt head coach Eric Nguyen said. "We played the second half the way we should have played the game."

The Golden Falcons (5-1-2 overall) has a week off before they start Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play.

"I told the guys to take tomorrow off. We just need rest right now," Worrell said.
