PREP GIRLS TENNIS: Goldsboro starts season with a shutout

Goldsboro emerged victorious in a pair of third-set tiebreakers and opened its season with a 9-0 conquest of Rosewood at Herman Park on Monday afternoon.
No. 2 seed Rachel Johnson dropped the middle set before upending the Eagles' Kaley Hilton 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (4).
Fifth-seeded Megan Kirby fell in the first set against Autumn Heath, and bounced back for a 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (2) victory.
Grace Boros, a returning state qualifier, posted a straight-set shutout at No. 1 singles. Crystal Golden, Caitlyn Zawadski and Kourtni Gerkens each earned a singles point.
The tandems of Boros-Johnson, Golden-Zawadski and Kirby-Gerkins swept the doubles.
Goldsboro (1-0 overall) visits Eastern Wayne today.
