Baseball

WILSON -- Avery Browning, Tanner Willman and Case Kermode combined for 12 RBI on Tuesday as Wayne Country Day outclassed CPIC rival Greenfield, 20-4, at Fleming Stadium.

The victory moved WCDS to 6-1 overall this season, and 2-0 in league play.

Browning's effort included a 4 of 4 showing at the dish, while Willman scalded Greenfield pitching for three base hits.

Kermode also performed ably, finishing the afternoon with two base hits.

Senior Jack Talton, Amane Godo and Ryan Smith handled matters on the hill for Wayne Country Day, combining to allow just five hits while striking out nine.

WCDS returns to the diamond on Saturday in Wilson at the Golden Leaf Invitational versus Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.

North Duplin 7,

Princeton 1

PRINCETON -- Colby Bass allowed just one run in seven innings, Gage Outlaw went 2 of 4 with two RBI and North Duplin turned back Carolina 1A rival Princeton, 7-1, on Tuesday.

The Rebels now stand 6-2 overall this season, and 4-1 in league play.

Effective from the outset, Bass allowed just six hits and struck out 12 en route to the complete-game victory.

He also fared well at the plate, going 2 of 3 with a run scored to support his own cause.

Guy McNeill also factored for the Rebels, going 1 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBI. Tanner Gehron rounded out matters for North Duplin with two base hits and an RBI.

The Rebels return to action today as the guest of Hobbton.

Softball

Princeton 6,

North Duplin 0

PRINCETON --  Casey Mitchell scattered seven hits over as many innings, Brianna Myers went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and Princeton turned back previously unbeaten North Duplin, 6-0, on Tuesday.

The Carolina 1A victory moved PHS to 5-2 overall, and 4-0 in league play.

Princeton led 1-0 after five innings, then decided matters by posting a 5-spot on the Lady Rebels in their half of the sixth frame.

Emily Ricks went 2 of 4 on the evening, while Hailey Woodall, Michaela Radford, Mitchell and University of Mount Olive commit Megan Bryant each drove in runs.

En route to her complete-game victory, Mitchell struck out two and walked three.

North Duplin (7-1 overall, 3-1 Carolina 1A) was paced by Courtney Brock, who finished 3 for 3 at the plate.

Clinton 8,

Spring Creek 0

SEVEN SPRINGS --  Taylor Spell scored four goals on Tuesday during Clinton's 8-0 victory over East Central 2A foe Spring Creek.

The loss, which moved SC to 8-2 overall, was quite the departure from its 7-1 victory over South Lenoir on Monday -- a lightning-quick affair in which five players scored.

Mirna Santiago and Michelle Roblero found the net twice against the Blue Devils, while Jordan Lane, Leslie Reyes and Bianca Cuevas each scored once.

Madison Sullivan, Lane and Taylor Smith filed assists.

Spring Creek returns to the pitch today as the guest of county rival Goldsboro.
