Wayne Christian's White deals no-no versus Lawrence Academy

En fuego.

Such was the case on Friday for Wayne Christian junior Will White, who managed both batters and adverse weather conditions to deal a no-hitter to visiting Lawrence Academy.

The gem, a five-inning affair in which White tossed just 81 pitches, was backed up by an Eagle offense that produced nine runs in its half of the first inning, then cruised to an 11-0 final.

Jaxon Anderson provided WC's offensive firepower, going 3 for 3 with four RBI. He also swiped two bags and scored on three occasions.

It was White's star-turn, however, as the righty lit up a chilly, windy afternoon by hurling six first-pitch strikes and was never seriously challenged.

Wayne Christian next sees the diamond on March 13 at Greenfield School in Wilson.

C.B. Aycock rips Northern Nash

PIKEVILLE -- Zack Brewer fanned nine over three innings, Blake Gipson went 3 of 4 with two RBI and Charles B. Aycock waltzed by Northern Nash, 12-2, on Friday at Charles Davis Field.

Blake Dilda also factored prominently for CBA, providing a pair of hits and two RBI. Nolan Harrell iced matters for the hosts in the fourth inning with a bases-clearing, three-run triple.

Brewer ceded the cliff to Luke Frederick in the fourth, who allowed no runs, no hits and struck out two. Jordan Gay closed the affair a frame later with three of the hosts 14 strikeouts.

The victory moved CBA to 2-0 this season ahead of next Tuesday's clash with Rosewood.

Softball

Fike outlasts Rosewood

WILSON -- Freshman Mackenzie Amodeo enjoyed a profitable afternoon at the plate, but the Rosewood softball outfit couldn't finish the rally it began in the final frame on Friday at Wilson Fike.

Trailing 8-1 after six innings, Amodeo and sophomore Laine Marak both launched home runs, but watched from there as Fike starter LeAnn Pittman worked through the outburst to earn her second victory of the season.

Amodeo finished the contest with a pair of homers in four at-bats. Marak went 1 of 4 with a home run and three RBI.

Toree Marak also performed ably for the Eagles, going 3 of 4 with two singles and a double.

Kaitlyn Kincaid absorbed the loss for Rosewood (0-2), allowing seven hits in six innings.

She also struck out four.

RHS returns to the diamond on Monday, when it travels to face Triton. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Soccer

CBA edges Goldsboro

PIKEVILLE -- Shakia Doctor converted a corner kick by Hannah Williamson during Goldsboro's 3-1 setback at Charles B. Aycock on Friday.  

CBA, now 1-0-1 on the season, visits Benson on Monday for a matchup with West Johnston.

GHS (0-1) next takes the pitch on Tuesday at home versus Hobbton.
