Samiya Bess scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as visiting Southern Wayne defeated county rival Goldsboro, 53-49, on Friday evening at Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium.
Alissa Meadows added 14 points, while Machiah Moore contributed 13 to the winning effort.
Aleesha Boyette paced GHS with 14 points, while Mary Archibald added 13 points. McKayla Roberts chipped in nine points.
Southern Wayne (1-1) plays host to North Lenoir tonight.
