Rocky Mount Academy 60
ROCKY MOUNT -- A balanced effort led Wayne Country Day School past Rocky Mount Academy, 78-60, on Friday evening.
Tracey Whitfield and Linwood Grandy scored 15 points apiece for the Chargers, who improved to 2-1 on the season. Whitfield's night also included eight assists and seven seven steals.
Marcus Metcalf and Cole Atwood also performed ably, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
"We started off a little slow in this one," WCDS head coach David Flowers said. "Only up seven at the half, but the guys really turned it up after the break... when this team decides to play, it's tough."
WCDS faces Lawrence Academy today.
United Faith Academy 91,
Wayne Country Day 71
Linwood Grandy paced Wayne Country Day with 25 points, but it wasn't enough to push the Chargers past talent-rich United Faith Academy last Tuesday.
Marcus Metcalf finished the night with 21 points for Country Day, while Tracey Whitfield added 10 points.
"This was a close game until the final six minutes," noted WCDS coach David Flowers. "The guys executed on both ends, but just couldn't get the final stops... I was proud of how we competed against a much bigger team that consisted of two Division I signees, as well as three others with offers."
