WARSAW -- James Kenan built a comfortable five-touchdown lead after one quarter and handed Southern Wayne a 56-13, non-conference loss at Bill Taylor Field on Friday evening.

"I think we realized that we still have a long way to go, but we still have more promise than we had in the last game," second-year SW head coach Ronnie McClary Jr. said. "We're not using any excuses for our outcome. We just have to work harder to have a better one next week.

"James Kenan had something to prove after their loss last week (50-0 to Wallace-Rose Hill) and they showed that they wanted it more than we did."

Shawntwon Leach accounted for the Saints' scoring -- a 50-yard TD pass from Tashawn Phillips in the second quarter, and a 35-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Leach ended the contest with 135 all-purpose yards.

The Saints compiled 201 yards of total offense.

Southern Wayne (0-2) travels to Goldsboro next Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.
