1A PREP SOFTBALL: Princeton eliminates East Carteret

BEAUFORT -- Beth Braswell clubbed a home run and emerged as the winning pitcher during Princeton's 2-0 triumph over East Carteret in third-round play of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs Tuesday evening.
Braswell gave up five hits, walked three and sat down five Mariners on strikeouts during her complete-game effort inside the circle. At the plate, the senior batted 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Riley Whitley added two hits.
Casey Mitchell and Megan Bryant each provided one hit.
The Bulldogs scored both runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Winners of eight consecutive games, Princeton (18-5 overall) plays host to 11th-seeded Whiteville either Thursday or Friday.
