3A PREP SOFTBALL: Waddell belts home run, earns piching win for CBA

PIKEVILLE -- Taylor Waddell swatted a home run as Charles B. Aycock thrashed Western Alamance, 9-3, during their third-round battle in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs Tuesday evening.
Waddell ended the night 2-for-3 with three RBI, and emerged as the winning pitcher. The right-hander surrendered an earned run on five hits and three walks, and retired six Western batters on strikeouts.
Mookie Powell, Cassandra Lassiter (two RBI) and Taylor Puetz (two RBI) supplied two hits apiece. Powell stole two bases.
The Golden Falcons (22-3 overall) return to action either Friday at Hillsborough Orange. Game time is 6 p.m.
