1A PREP SOFTBALL: Pirates rally, top Rebels in extra innings

HERTFORD -- Perquimans constantly pecked away at a five-run deficit and handed North Duplin a 6-5, 10-inning loss in second-round action of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs Monday evening.
Rayanna Koch batted a season-best 5-for-5, including a double, as the Rebels concluded their season 15-3 overall. Natalie Ramirez contributed four hits.
Alyssa Santos, Courtney Brock and Maddie Swinson registered two hits apiece. Haley Brogden doubled and Brooke Cottle ended the day 1-for-5 at the plate.
Brogden took the mound loss. The right-hander retired eight Pirates on strikeouts, but surrendered six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks.
