SWANSBORO -- Wayne County will be well represented during the season-ending N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A outdoor track and field state championship meet next weekend.

Some competitors broke school records, while others qualified in standard measure at the eastern regional contested on a damp Friday afternoon at Swansboro HS.

Eastern Wayne's Daniel Best emerged as the regional champ with a mark of 44 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump. Teammate William Smith finished runner-up by one inch.

Amari Brigman logged third-place efforts in the shot put (36 feet) and discus (104-4.5).

The Warriors' 4x1 relay of Taniyah Oates, Tianna Barnes, Samiya Blount and Kianna Haywood took third in 50.85 seconds.

Charles B. Aycock is taking four individuals and one relay.

Arlanda Faulkner emerged as the regional runner-up in the 300 hurdles (49.23 seconds) and grabbed fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.99). Both times were school records. Teammate Cyerra Carter captured third in the long jump (17-3) and fourth in the triple jump (35-5.25).

Golden Falcon sprinter Kamarion Graham won the 100-meter dash gold medal with a school-record time of 10.67. He also placed fourth in the 200. Trevor Holt secured fourth in the shot put (50-5).

CBA's quartet of Rico Dawson, Muhammad Brooks, Tahj Thacker and Graham broke the tape third in the 800 relay with a program-best 1.31.53.

Distance specialist Sarah Gregory set school records in the half-mile run (2:36.17) and mile run (5:54.03). Both were top-10 times.

Southern Wayne is taking its girls' 400 relay, which took second in 49.92 seconds.

The top four placers in each event advance to the state meet, which is next Saturday on the Irwin Belk Track at N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro.
