Alana Kazar tallied the game-winning goal in the 60th minute, lifting Eastern Wayne past Rockingham County, 3-2, in opening-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs Wednesday evening.
The third-seeded Warriors entertain Cleveland on Friday.
Kazar's goal, off a cross from Claire Molloy, pushed Eastern Wayne's advantage to 3-1. The Cougars answered on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the 73rd minute.
"(A) nail-biter game tonight," Warriors head coach Scott Summers said.
Molloy connected on a left-footed shot, off a pass from Brennan Dove, toward the left post for the Warriors' first goal of the game. Molloy struck again in the 23rd minute, tracking down an over-the-top ball from Veronica Makdad.
RC closed the gap to 2-1 at halftime.
