KINSTON -- An uncharacteristic start from Brett Martin put the Down East Wood Ducks in trouble early, and they eventually dropped a 9-2 decision to Salem at historic Grainger Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The teams split the season series 4-4.
Down East allowed 32 runs in the four losses.
Martin zipped a 1-2-3 first inning with two strikeouts.
But Salem plated seven runs in the second, third and fourth innings combined. The Wood Ducks yielded four unearned runs on two errors. Martin surrendered a career-high seven runs.
The Wood Ducks' Josh Morgan mashed a home run -- his first of 2017 -- to left field in the fourth.
Down East begins a series today at Potomac.
