Goldsboro put the finishing touches on its Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference boys' tennis championship with a 6-3 decision over Greene Central on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars secured the league's No. 1 seed and an opening-round home match for the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs, which begin May 2.

"I am very proud of the way these boys have played," GHS head coach Steven Fine said. "They have the heart, drive and love of the game that makes coaching fun. I look forward to seeing how we will perform in the individual tournaments, and the dual-team tournament."

Sam DeAraujo and Holden Jones each finished regular-season play unbeaten. Araujo, who competed at the No. 2 flight against the Rams, improved to 12-0 with a straight-set decision over Nailah Ortega.

Jones climbed to 8-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 conquest of Drake Robart at No. 5 singles.

Senior Xan Pate (10-1) stepped into the No. 1 seed and cruised past Brandon Gilbert 6-0, 6-3. Caleb Whitted (10-1) claimed a straight-set win at the No. 3 slot.
