MOUNT OLIVE -- Joelle Mafo has been named head women's volleyball coach at the University of Mount Olive on Thursday.
"We are pleased to have Coach Joelle join the Trojan family," said LaToya Lindsey, associate director of athletics. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this program. We are thrilled about the future of the women's volleyball program, and we know great things are on the horizon."
Mafo spent the past seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Jackson State University. During her tenure on the bench, Mafo helped the Tigers win three Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships and earn two NCAA tournament appearances.
Before joining the JSU staff, Mafo split time as a graduate assistant at Arkansas State University and Arkansas Tech University. She obtained her degree at ASU, where she played volleyball. Mafo earned her Master's Degree from Arkansas Tech.
"The University of Mount Olive Volleyball team has a bright future. The work ethic has to continue in order to be successful," Mafo said. "I am excited about this opportunity and I want to thank the search committee, particularly Associate Director of Athletics LaToya Lindsey and Vice President for Athletics Jeff Eisen for the trust they have in me.
"I am ready to work."
The Trojan women finished 10-18 last fall.
Head men's volleyball coach David Heller will remain as the assistant coach for the women's volleyball team.
