PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

* Baseball: Rosewood 10, Southern Wayne 8 (6 inn.) -- Tanner Capps and Carson Hatem collected two hits and three RBI apiece during the Eagles' non-conference win Thursday afternoon. DeVante Phillips added two hits and an RBI. Alex Harper started on the mound and allowed seven runs (four earned) in two-plus innings. Tanner McKeel threw 1 2/3 innings and Phillips collected the save. The Eagles (8-0-1 overall) play host to Hobbton on Tuesday.

* Baseball: J.H. Rose 12, C.B. Aycock 0 (5 inn.) -- The Golden Falcons suffered a no-hit, mercy-rule road loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Thursday afternoon. Brady Christian, Adam Brogden and Noah Overton all saw mound time for C.B. Aycock, which slipped to 4-7 overall and 2-3 against ECC opposition this season.

* Girls' soccer: Wayne Country Day 10, Greenfield 2 -- Jala Holloman tallied four goals. Hayden Nielsen punched in three goals. Kathryn Hamilton found the back of the net twice, and Ashton Gupton dropped in one goal. Nielsen, Mary Scott Best and Lexi Jeffreys each had one assist.

Middle schools

* Softball: Wayne Christian 8, Unity Christian 7 -- The Eagles fell behind 5-0 before erupting for seven fourth-inning runs on four hits -- three of which were doubles by Bri Verme, Abigail Kornegay and Elizabeth Howell. Kornegay claimed the pitching win and Verme picked up the save. Wayne Christian (6-0 overall) visits Freedom Christian on Monday.

* Softball: Grantham 8, Wayne School of Engineering 0 -- Shaye Heathcock threw a complete-game five-hitter and retired six Titans on strikeouts. Heathcock slugged a home run for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-1 overall this season. Abbey Parker cranked out three hits. Alissa Meadows and Riley Hatch each had two hits. Allie Lane, Katie Toler and Ally Brimberry each recorded one hit. Riliegh Gibson paced WSE's offense with two hits. Grantham plays host to Greenwood on Monday.
