Girls' basketball

Rosewood 44, Perquimans 42

* HERTFORD -- Hannah Daniels just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Rosewood upended Perquimans 44-42 in opening-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Tuesday evening.

Daniels also picked the Pirates for five steals.

Sophomore Braylee Butts logged 14 points, three assists and five steals. Senior Payton Lane posted 10 points and seven assists. Senior forward Nekia Williams provided five points, nine rebounds, six steals and one blocked shot.

Rosewood (16-11 overall) travels to Roxboro Community on Thursday -- a rematch of last year's eastern semifinal won by RC.

Terry Sanford 51, C.B. Aycock 27

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Cassandra Lassiter knocked down 11 points during Charles B. Aycock's season-ending loss to Terry Sanford in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs Tuesday evening.

Tanika Powell added five points, dished out a team-leading eight assists and snared six rebounds in her final game. Lexi Edmundson recorded four points and three rebounds. Arlanda Faulkner pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Destiny Washington had eight rebounds, while Victoria Patanaude grabbed six caroms.

CBA shot 25 percent (10 of 40) from the floor.

The Golden Falcons ended the year 12-12 overall.

Swimming

Pittman medals

* GREENSBORO -- Zander Pittman reached the medal podium during the boys' 100-yard breaststroke in the second-ending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A state championship meet.

Pittman, a junior at Wayne Country Day, touched the wall third in 1 minute, 2.03 seconds. He posted a fourth-place time of 1:59.59 in the 200 individual medley (IM).

Charlie Dees ended up 41st in the 50 free (26.43) and 52nd in the 100 free (1:00.74). Teammate Raleigh Benson placed 32nd in the 100 free (58.06), while Daniel Covert took 72nd overall in 1:02.99.

The Chargers' foursome of Benson, Dees, Covert and Pittman wound up 13th in the 400 free relay (4:01.23) and 14th in the 200 free relay (1:47.64).

Wayne Christian's Stephen Whitfield secured 72nd place in the 50 free with a mark of 28.46 seconds.

On the girls' side, Wayne Christian's Anna Rendall was 15th in the 500 free (6:36.3) and 21st overall in the 100 free (1:04.39).

WCDS standout Grace O'Daniel turned in a 30th-place time of 28.71 in the 50 free and swam a time of 1:04.01 in the 100 free -- good enough for 19th place.

Teammate Laurel Hinson was 64th in the 100 free (1:12.64).

Boys' basketball

RM Prep 83, Princeton 65

* ROCKY MOUNT -- Top-seeded Rocky Mount Prep erupted for 53 second-half points and eliminated Princeton 83-65 from the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Tuesday.

Garrett Klein paced the Bulldogs' offense with 22 points. Austin Sullivan contributed 18 points. Colby Sullivan chipped in seven points, followed by Rahjai McPhatter (six) and Earl Gibson Jr. (five).

PHS concluded the season 11-16.
