GREENSBORO -- A senior in his first-ever appearance in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A individual championships, Tim Taylor of Southern Wayne ran into a pair of seasoned opponents.
The No. 4 seed from the East region, Taylor was pinned by Kings Mountain's Darian McClain 41 seconds into their quarterfinal match. He endured a season-ending loss to Hillsborough Orange's Jamar Davis in the opening round of consolation action.
Taylor filed an 18-16 record.
He is the first Southern Wayne wrestler to advance to the state level since Tristan Bass and John Futrell in 2008. Bass, according to Association records, is the lone four-time state qualifier in program history.
