WILSON -- Jamal King logged a double-double -- 21 points, 15 rebounds -- during Wayne Country Day's stunning, semifinal-round 57-50 loss to Pope John Paul II in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament Thursday evening.
Jimmie Sanders contributed 16 points and six assists.
"John Paul played great and we did not," Chargers head coach David Flowers said. "This was a poor performance on our part and shooting was horrific. We only scored eight points in the second (quarter) and eight in the third. We picked a bad time of the year to have our worst game of the season.
"Hopefully, we can get things right next week and prepare for the state tournament."
The Chargers (18-10 overall) will learn their fate in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs when the seeds are released Sunday.
