CARY -- Eastern Wayne freshman Jazmin Jones and Charles B. Aycock senior Zech Chastain are headed to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A championship meet.

Chastain claimed the eastern regional title in the 100 back with a time of 51.72 seconds Friday evening at the Triangle Aquatic Center. He finished regional runner-up in the 50 free at 21.57. He -- along with Ellis Smith, Brandon Russell and Mitch Castorena -- took ninth overall in the 400 free relay and 11th in the 200 free relay.

The quartet shaved a total of 18 seconds off their season-best times in both events.

Jones logged personal-best qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle (25.66 seconds) and the 100 free (57.61). Head coach Nate Schuler expects Jones to place among the top 16 in both events during the state finals.

The regional signaled the end of senior Yohan Yan's career.

"Yohan has grown and matured exponentially in his four years on the team and it was fitting that his last meet be regional competition," Schuler said. "It has been an honor to coach such an outstanding group of student-athletes for yet another season. Plans are already being put into place to hopefully yield a fiew more state qualifying swimmers (next season)."

Aycock's Arial Smith, Zoe Mattrasingh, Anna Williams, Sammy Castorena and Sarah Aycock dropped nine seconds from the personal-best time in the girls' 400 free relay. Smith dropped time in both the 50 free and 100 back.
