• Girls' basketball: Southern Wayne 41, South Central 32 -- La'Miya Pearsall paced the Saints' offense with 17 points. Ariana Sutton and Cassandra Pearsall chipped in seven and six points, respectively. Southern Wayne (14-5 overall) improved to 8-3 in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play and is the guest of Eastern Wayne next Tuesday.

• Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 59, Christ Covenant 32 -- Jaydon Young knocked down a team-high 20 points during the Eagles' regular-season finale in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play. Addison Johnson (six assists, six steals) added 11 points. Jeremy Bentley (six rebounds) and Blake Tinker (five steals, three assists, four rebounds) recorded seven points apiece. Dean Thornton scored six points. Dalton Schreffler pulled down five rebounds. Wayne Christian posted 37 rebounds and 22 steals as a team.

• Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 51, New Bern 19 -- Isaiah Melvin tallied a season-high eight points during the Golden Falcons' road win on Friday. Jaylan Robinson, Jacari Outlaw and Alec Bryan each contributed seven points. C.B. Aycock rose to 12-8 overall and 6-4 against ECC opposition this season.

• Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 43, New Bern 25 -- The Golden Falcons' Taylor Gay sizzled the nets for a team-best 22 points. Sharon Moorefield and Heaven Tatum each supplied five points. Desani Jackson (four points), Morgan Casey (three points), Shi Speight (three points) and Hannah Spier (one point) also scratched in the scorebook.

• Boys' basketball: Spring Creek 36, Rosewood 32 -- Demartae Bizzell delivered an 18-point outing in the Gators' road win Friday evening.

Middle schools

• Girls' basketball: Christ Covenant 26, Wayne Christian 20 -- Brianna Verme led the Eagles' offense with 14 points, including 4 of 8 effort at the free throw line. Wayne Christian concludes regular-season play next Tuesday against Wilson Christian.

• Boys' basketball: Christ Covenant 55, Wayne Christian 47 -- Additional details were not submitted to the News-Argus.
