BOYS' SWIMMING: Eagles' Ira, Lyon, Merritt and Brogden headed to state meet

CARY -- Rosewood's Dalton Ira and Jack Lyon each posted top-10 performances in two individual events apiece, and qualified for the N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A state championship meet.
Ira touched the wall 10th in the 200 free with a time of 2 minutes, 0.96 seconds. He claimed ninth in the 500 free in 5:28.47. He also swam the third leg on the Eagles' 200 free relay that punched their ticket to the state finals. Ira -- along with Lyon, Damon Merritt and Justin Brogden -- turned in a 10th-place effort of 1:41.92.
Lyon touched the wall fifth in the 200 individual medley (IM) in 2:09.89 seconds -- 3.05 seconds lower than his seed time for the eastern regional meet contested the Triangle Aquatic Center. He claimed 10th overall in the 100 free in 52.58 seconds.
The Eagles took 17th in the 200 medley relay and 22nd in the 400 relay.
