Ayden-Grifton 35

* LITTLEFIELD -- Charles B. Aycock overcame a slow offensive start and dismantled Ayden-Grifton, 54-35, in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

The Chargers led 8-7 after one quarter.

The Golden Falcons (2-0 overall) seized a 22-12 lead at halftime and increased it to 44-24 after three quarters.

Cassandra Lassiter emerged as CBA's top scorer with 22 points, followed by Tanika "Mookie" Powell with 17. The duo combined to shoot 12 of 19 from the floor.

Powell dished out five assists and picked A-G for four steals. Faulkner and Victoria Patnaude combined for 10 rebounds.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

* Hiromi Sueki secured low gross during weekly play on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Mary Morris seized low net. Linda Cannon won low putts.

During an Eastern Carolina Ladies Golf Association tournament, Kathy Woodard took low putts in first-flight competition.

Faye Frankin captured low gross in third flight. Charlotte Campbell collected low net in fourth flight, and Betty Holloway was the low putts winner in fifth flight.

Wrestling

Rosewood goes 4-1

* RED OAK -- Defending state 1-A dual-team champion Rosewood logged a 4-1 record during the annual I-95 Duals contested at Northern Nash on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles defeated Heritage (50-30), Nash Central (53-13), Northern Nash (72-9) and Rocky Munt (76-0).

Holly Springs defeated Rosewood 43-14.

"I would say we wrestled very well for the first four matches," Eagles head coach Bill Edmundson said. "We started out strong in the fifth match of the night against (2016) state 4-A dual-team runner-up Holly Springs. We always like to wrestle Holly Springs because with their year-round program it gives us a sense of what we need to work on as well as what we are doing well.

"We learned a lot tonight and we have a tremendous amount of work to do in the practice room to reach our goals."

Rosewood returns home today for a four-team meet that includes county rival Charles B. Aycock, conference foe Princeton and Big East 3-A member Wilson Fike.

Boys' basketball

Ayden-Grifton 66,

* LITTLEFIELD -- Justin Lofton-Russell led three Charles B. Aycock players in double figures with 17 points during a 66-51, non-conference loss to Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday evening.

Semaj Yelverton scored 13 points, followed by Eli Batts with 11. Teammates Mike Evans and TayQuan Hampton combined for 10 points.

CBA fell to 1-1 overall this season.

JV

* Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 50, Ayden-Grifton 38 -- Amir Fuller led the Golden Falcons' offensive attack with 12 points. TyReice Artis and Jacari Outlaw scored 11 points apiece. Jaylan Robinson added seven points. CBA improved to 2-0 overall this season.

* Boys' basketball: Spring Creek 53, South Lenoir 49 -- Christian Yarbrough paced the Gators' offense with 17 points.
