GIRLS' TENNIS: Princeton advances in 1A dual-team playoffs

TARBORO -- Princeton swept the doubles courts and eliminated Tarboro, 6-3, from opening-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A dual-team playoffs Tuesday.
The top-seeded tandem of Mackenzie Evans-Emily Shallington emerged victorious 10-0. The No. 2 duo of Cailee Vetrano-Jasmine Rubio won 8-5, while the No. 3 pair of Katherine Leslie-Lauren Lawhon cruised to a 10-2 decision.
Evans, Rubio and Leslie each earned a singles point. Evans won a second-set tiebreaker during her 6-3, 7-6 (6) triumph at No. 1 singles. Rubio pulled off a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win at the No. 4 flight.
Princeton travels to Whiteville next Tuesday.
