BOYS' SOCCER: Doulin's OT goal lifts Golden Falcons on the road

Fatigue didn't matter.

All that counted was one goal.

And Aycock finally found its mark during the 92nd minute of a 1-0, double-overtime triumph over county and Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe Eastern Wayne on a chilly, fall-like Wednesday evening.

Moments after the second OT kickoff, the Golden Falcons' Zach Zacharzuk dribbled toward the 18-yard box, bodied up with the Warriors' Christian Anderson and fought for possession of the ball. Zacharzuk hit the ground and the far side assistant referee waved flag to signify a foul.

What followed was a textbook set piece play.

Coe Jordan lined up on the ball and teammate Sean Doulin snuck his way toward the near post. The two made eye contact. Jordan wrapped a curling shot around the Warriors' four-man wall and Doulin did the rest.

"I knew I had a player I could beat (to the ball) on me and I was looking over at Coe, told him to play me and he saw me," said Doulin, who notched his fourth goal of the season.

"He did all the work and I just put it in."

It was Jordan's seventh assist of the season.

"We've been shooting long balls and that wasn't working," Jordan said. "Me and Sean made some eye contact, he told me to pass it to him, so I just passed it to him. It was just a matter of faith in him because I know he'd go for it."

EW head coach Scott Summers didn't agree with the call. He felt Christian won the 50-50 ball and said the play should have continued.

Summers applauded his team's best defensive effort of the year. The Warriors used their intensity, high energy, solid work rate and physicality to control most of the first-half possession.

Aycock, which was playing its third game in a three-day period, appeared disconnected offensively. Passes were off the mark that allowed Eastern Wayne (4-14-3, 1-8-2) to step into open space and build a counter attack.

EW pressured the Golden Falcons' David McIver, Josh Naughton, Oscar Carcomo and Nolan Casey. The quartet bended on occasion and yielded seven shots -- just one on frame, a kick by Alfrado Cabrero that deflected off the post in the 70th minute.

"I think our first half was a little shaky, but we definitely came together and got a win," Doulin said. "We're all sore. It's crazy. I'm just really proud of my team."

Aycock's Leo Carcomo appeared to score just seven minutes into the second half. The midfield ref waved off the goal with a late whistle that occurred after he missed a sideline call from the AR.

The Golden Falcons (11-7-0 overall, 8-3-0 ECC) attempted 16 shots on goal and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. CBA keeper Skyler Landers collected three saves and recorded the team's eighth shutout of the season.

Eastern Wayne (4-14-3, 1-8-2) has tallied just three goals in its last 680 minutes of action on the pitch.
