LASKER -- Wayne Christian built a four-touchdown lead over a three-quarter stretch and cruised past Northeast Academy, 46-34, in a Colonial Carolina 1-A Conference 8-man football game Friday evening.
Austin Kornegay accounted for 134 yards of total offense and three touchdowns for the Eagles, who claimed their second victory of the season. Kornegay tallied all three of his TDs in the second quarter -- a 9-yard run and scoring receptions of 5 and 40 yards from quarterback DJ Waters.
Kanin Preskitt contributed two touchdowns -- a 15-yard TD strike from Waters with 9:21 left in the opening quarter. Nearly three minutes later, the two hooked up for a 20-yard scoring play.
Preskitt finished with 76 yards of total offense on 12 plays.
Waters completed 11 of 16 passes for 137 yards, and rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts.
The Eagles were successful on five of six two-point conversion attempts.
Wayne Christian (2-6 overall, 2-3 CCC) entertains Lawrence Academy on Friday and is scheduled to complete a suspended game against Parrott Academy on Oct. 24. Parrott led 22-20 when lightning and heavy rains caused a lengthy delay.
