CROSS COUNTRY: Owens, Thomas, Carroll, Gregory earn all-ECC accolades

WINTERVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Deshawn Owens finished fourth overall and earned first-team all-conference accolades during the season-ending Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at Boyd Lee Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Owens ran the 5k course in 18 minutes, 22.06 seconds. Teammate Davis Carroll garnered second-team all-ECC accolades with a 14th-place time of 19:27.32.
The Golden Falcons' next three scorers were Mitch Castorena (24th, 20:12.9), Jon Bowers (37th, 21:08.81) and Guy Crane (38th, 21:09.85). One year after winning the ECC championship, the Golden Falcons wound up fourth with 100 points.
Southern Wayne's Bless Thomas picked up first-team all-ECC honors with a ninth-place time of 18:54.05. Teammate Matt Castillo crossed the line 42nd overall in 21:26.88. Jasavion Powell (21:34.25) and Davis Caudill (21:53.27) took 45th and 46th, respectively.
Joel Espinoza capped the Saints' team score of 152 with a 55th-place effort of 22:37.82.
Eastern Wayne's participants were Zack Childress (40th, 21:16.3), Sebastian Woodcock (61st, 22:53.71), Yohan Yan (97th, 25:41.14) and Zach Wilt (25:47.54).
New Bern claimed the team title.
On the girls' side, Aycock's Sarah Gregory collected first-team all-ECC honors with an eighth-place finish.
