PREP FOOTBALL: Wayne Christian wins first-ever 8-man varsity game

HOBGOOD -- Wayne Christian rallied from a 12-point, first-quarter deficit and won its first-ever 8-man varsity football game in school history -- a 50-38 triumph over Colonial Carolina 1-A Conference foe Hobgood Academy on Friday evening.
Quarterback DJ Waters accounted for six touchdowns in the Eagles' comeback victory. He returned a second-quarter punt 60 yards to the house and completed three TD strikes -- two to Austin Kornegay for 48 and 55 yards, and one to Will White for 3 yards.
Waters also had TD scampers of 65 and 1 yard.
Kornegay ended the night with 194 yards of total offense -- 76 rushing and a career-best 118 receiving. Preskitt rambled for 52 yards on the ground and hauled in two passes for 31 yards.
Gavin Wiley rushed for 14 yards.
Wayne Christian led 28-20 at halftime and broke the game open with a 22-point, third-quarter surge. Waters' 55-yard pass to Kornegay completed the Eagles' scoring with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Eagles (1-4 overall, 1-2 CCC) continues a three-game road swing next Friday at Bethel Christian Academy.
