SALEMBURG -- North Duplin's defense forced turnovers on Lakewood's final three offensive series and walked away with a 13-6 victory in Carolina 1-A Conference play Friday evening.
The Rebels (3-3 overall, 1-0 CC) snapped a seven-game skid in the series and won for the 11th time overall in 25 meetings against the Leopards.
Lakewood fumbled twice inside the ND red zone. The Rebels' David Price intercepted a Leopards pass to end another possession inside the 30-yard line.
ND's defense yielded 217 yards of total offense.
Will Archer's 4-yard touchdown scamper with 4:45 left in the third quarter turned into the game-winning score. Archer's 8-yard TD run and Colby Craig's PAT gave the Rebels a 7-6 advantage at the break.
Archer ended the night with 116 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Kenny Sheppard supplied 70 yards on 16 totes. Colby Bass added 57 yards on 14 carries.
ND finished 0-for-1 passing.
The Rebels entertain county archrival James Kenan on Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.
