* Nine different players got into the scoring act as Wayne Country Day throttled Pope John Paul, 9-0, on the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference scene Friday afternoon.
Noah Adkins supplied two goals and two assists for the Chargers, who extended their win streak to six games -- all in shutout fashion. Luis Lopez contributed one goal and two assists.
Nehemiya Shaw, Ben Cohen, Hunter Bryson, Amane Godo, Caleb Brewer and Marquise Newell delivered one goal apiece. Bryson, Newell and Thomas Sumner each registered one assist.
The Chargers (13-2-0 overall, 5-1-0 CPIC) entertain Oakwood on Tuesday.

* Hope Shook cranked out a season-high 16 kills and served two aces during Wayne Christian's 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 conquest of Pope John Paul II Catholic HS on Friday evening.
The Eagles (18-2 overall) remained unbeaten in eight Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference outings this season.
Hannah Sladick posted 12 kills and Mercy Wright contributed seven kills in the straight-set decision.
Kasey Norris passed out 41 assists.
Girls' tennis

* PIKEVILLE -- D.H. Conley sealed the overall outcome in singles play and upended Charles B. Aycock, 8-1, on the Luke Vail Tennis Courts.
Fifth-seeded Hannah Tyndall collected CBA's lone singles point -- a 6-2, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (11-9) triumph over Brooke Sullivan at the No. 5 flight.
