CROSS COUNTRY: Eagles, Chargers compete

Gray Young turned in a third-place time of 22 minutes, 35 seconds and helped Wayne Country Day edge Wilson Christian, 20-22, in a girls' meet contested Monday afternoon.

Teammate Ashton Gupton crossed the line seventh in 24:13. Teammates Sophie de Araujo (25:08) and Katherine Eltz (25:10) took 10th and 11, respectively. Natalie Bailey was 17th overall in 26:02.

Paige Court led Wayne Christian with a sixth-place effort of 23:44. Maria Memmelaar (25:52) crossed the line 16th. Fellow Eagles Natalie Rheingruber (26:32) and Hayli Verme (26:40) took 21st and 22nd, respectively.

WCS amassed 42 points, good enough for third among the eight competing teams.

Taylor Skinner (45th, 32:41), Trista Alexander (48th, 33:28) and McKayla Kornegay (56th, 36:59) represented Faith Christian Academy.

On the boys' side, Wayne Country Day had four runners place among the top 12 runners - Cole Atwood (2nd, 18:04), Connor Bauer (5th, 19:55), Suraj Pate (6th, 20:10) and Case Kermode (12th, 20:59).

Teammate Brandon Talton was 18th in 21:33.

The Chargers recorded a meet-low 13 points among the nine competing teams. Wayne Christian ended up 6th with 61 points, followed by Faith Christian with 106.

Eli Winders emerged as Wayne Christian's top placer, crossing the line seventh in 20:12. Cody Easom was 21st in 21:42. Rayshawn Wellington (23:52) and Eathan Knight (24:33) grabbed 33rd and 39th place overall, respectively.

Harrison Freeman turned in a 22nd-place time of 21:55 for FCA. Teammates Hayden Boelier (24:51), Blaise Conlon (25:38), Alex Tillman (26:13) and Silas Hill (26:42) each finished among the top 46.
