FOOTBALL: Wayne Christian falls short against Community Christian

Wayne Christian set two single-game school records during its 56-54 loss to Colonial Carolina Conference 8-man football foe Community Christian on Friday evening.
The Eagles returned two kickoffs to the house -- a 85-yard romp by Austin Kornegay and a 78-yard jaunt by Jaxon Bauer. Bauer also established a school mark with a 100-yard interception return with three-plus minutes remaining before halftime.
Quarterback DJ Waters accounted for 281 all-purpose yards -- 98 rushing and 183 on 4 of 5 passing. The first-year signal caller completed a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes to Will White that coverered 46 and 52 yards.
White compiled 147 yards on three receptions.
Wayne Christian finished with 310 yards of total offense.
The Eagles (0-4 overall, 0-3 CCC) begin a three-game road swing against CCC opponents next Friday at Hobgood Academy. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
