VOLLEYBALL: Warriors snap 4-game skid

DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne snapped a four-game skid in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 triumph over county rival Southern Wayne on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior outside hitter Emily Newsome pounded out seven kills and sophomore middle hitter Alyssa Jackson added six kills. Jackson, Newsome and Alana Kazar each served three aces.
Jackson and Rayna Gibson combined for five solo blocks. Kailey Peedin-Rouse emerged as the defensive leader with four digs.
The Warriors (10-4 overall, 1-4 ECC) conclude first-half play Thursday against county archrival Charles B. Aycock.
