CROSS COUNTRY: Owens leads Aycock in 4-team ECC meet

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock placed five runners among the top six and emerged victorious in a four-team, Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran Wednesday afternoon.
Deshawn Owens won his first-ever meet, completing the 5k course in 18 minutes, 58 seconds. Teammate John Parrish took second in 19:46. Mitch Castorena (20:31), Davis Carroll (20:35), Hunter Crane (20:50) and Jonathan Bowers (21:11) helped polish off the dominant 18-point team performance.
South Central ended up second with 44 points, followed by D.H. Conley (89) and county rival Eastern Wayne (99).
Zack Childress led Eastern Wayne with a 10th-place effort of 21:33. The Warriors next four finishers were Justin Neely (13th, 21:47), Sebastian Woodlock (34th, 23:49), Tristan Lauritzen (49th, 25:36) and Zack Wilt (60th, 27:12).
David Baker also participated for EW.
