WILSON -- Marquise Newell notched the game-winning goal in the opening half as Wayne Country Day blanked Community Christian in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference clash Tuesday afternoon.
Newll scored off an assist from Noah Adkins.
Adkins converted a penalty kick after Nehemiya Shaw drew a foul inside the 18-yard box. The senior captain misfired on another PK attempt - a shot that went wide of the goal just before halftime.
WCDS took 42 shots on the day.
"We dominated the game from start to finish and should have had more (goals)," Chargers head coach Steve Ellis said. "The second half was the best spell for us and the (Community) keeper kept us out (of the net)."
