CENTRAL, S.C. -- Southern Wesleyan University has earned full-member status in the NCAA Division II ranks from the organization's membership committee and management council.
The Warriors, who compete in Conference Carolinas, spent two seasons in a "candidacy year" phase and completed their "provisional year" phase this past academic season. Holy Names (Calif.) University, Rogers State (Okla.) University and Mississippi College will also join Division II this fall.
"Our entire campus and surrounding communit believe this move to the NCAA is a game changer for our students, our impact and our future together," said President Dr. Todd Voss of SWU.
The committee discontinued another Conference Carolinas school, Emmanuel (Ga.) College, from the membership process. Emmanuel College officials expect to appeal the NCAA's ruling.
