RALEIGH -- St. Augustine's University quarterback Julius Murphy has been selected to the 2016 All-State American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Football Team.
Murphy is one of 165 nominees for the 25th anniversary team who represent the FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA levels. Each student-athlete was nominated by sports information diretors from their respective schools across the nation.
The selections are based on a student-athlete's outstanding community service achievements and commitment to charities.
A two-sport standout and Goldsboro High graduate, Murphy started at quarterback for the Falcons in 2015 and also played on the men's basketball team.
Murphy volunteered for several community service projects this past season. He mentored kids with the football team at an elementary school and served Thanksgiving meals with the men's and women's basketball teams at a homeless shelter.
Murphy also tutored kids in the Oasis Outreach Program at a local church.
