While the students emerged as the ultimate winners of the annual Wayne Community College Foundation Scholarship Invitational, a few players took home bragging rights from this year's tournament contested at Walnut Creek Country Club.
The BB&T foursome -- Hayden Gardner, Julie Daniels, Joe Democko and Eric Williams -- posted a tournament-low gross score of 55. The Wells Fargo Bank squad of Bryan Corbett, Mark Conway, Warren Jackson and Jason also fired a 55.
However, BB&T won the tournament based on a scorecard playoff.
Piedmont Natural Gas -- David Bowden, Chuck Fraser, Travis Buckley and Ian Bushman, secured third place with a 56.
The Woodard Realty team -- Mike Woodard, Pat Kennedy, Kathy Woodard and Michael Woodard -- shot the best net score of 57. The quartet finished one stroke lower than the foursome of Berkshire Hathaway McMillen Home Service -- Frank Smith, David Mercer, Danny Southerland and Todd Jones.
Southern Bank's Mark Raynor, Dan Ellis, Scott Newton and Greg Shackleford totaled a 59.
The annual tournament provides scholarship for students at WCC.
