Bears take advantage of Warriors' miscues

New Bern collected three unearned runs on two Eastern Wayne errors and walked away with a 6-4 victory on the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference scene Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors suffered their second straight ECC defeat.
University of Charlotte signee Zack Smith and Lee Daniels paced the EW offense with two hits apiece. Tanner Wells (RBI), Ryan Warren (two RBI), Carlyle Smith and Brock Johnson each had one hit on the day.
Wells worked 4 1/3 innings on the mound. He yielded four runs on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Smith appeared in relief and took the loss. He permitted two unearned runs on four hits and retired four New Bern batters on strikeouts.
Daniel Rust and Brad Barlow (three RBI) emerged as New Bern's offensive leaders. Davis Balentine added an RBI.
Jay Pike claimed the pitching win. He gave up an earned run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Rust picked up the save.
